Aquamarine is a semi precious gem from the Beryl family, the same family as Emerald. It is famous for its sea blue like colours and for its excellent clarity and transparency. Its name was derived from the Latin word seawater. Major sources of Aquamarine include Brazil, Madagascar, Russia, Pakistan and the USA. Aquamarine is the birthstone for the month of March. Santa Maria aquamarine represents a particular shade of blue in a deeply saturated hue. This colour was originally discovered at the Santa Maria de Itabira mine, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. In the gem trade, ‘Santa Maria’ can also describe any aquamarine stone displaying this colour. The original deposit is almost exhausted, and today most of the Santa Maria aquamarines are sourced from sub-Saharan countries of Africa, including Mozambique.
This Rainbow Fluorite or multicolour Fluorite shows different colours in one stone and is mined in areas all over the world. Each different fluorite colour has a slightly different fluorite meaning because the various colours are determined by different elements included in the fluorite mineral rock. Each different element brings its own particular attributes, adding them to the basic fluorite meaning. Fluorite crystals are not traditional birthstones. Green fluorite, however, is a natural fluorite birthstone for people born in the spring between April 20 and May 20. Blue fluorite is a natural fluorite birthstone for people born from February 19 to March 19, under the Zodiac sign Pisces. Green fluorite is excellent for the heart chakra while blue fluorite works well at the throat chakra.
