Rhyolite is a volcanic rock that is formed when lava cools into an igneous rock with a high silica content. Because the lava that creates rhyolite moves slowly and is very viscous, it generally collects into dome-like formations and cools very quickly—too quickly for any crystals to form. The Rhyolite we work with is from Mount Hay Queensland Australia.
