Cat’s Eye (Lahsuniya / Vaidooryam ) is a semi precious gemstone found in shades of colours like pale to dark gray, black, honey and yellowish green. When cut to cabochon, it displays a luminous band reminiscent of the eye of a cat; this particular quality is termed chatoyancy. The Cat’s Eye is found in Sri Lanka, Brazil and India on a very big scale. It is also found in South Africa, Russia, Burma, and the U.S.A. In India, it has been found in a very big way in Orissa.
