Chrysoprase is apple-green chalcedony that ranges in colour between yellowish green and green. Its green colour is usually caused by traces of nickel. Beautiful green chrysoprase is the second most valuable variety of chalcedony after gem silica. Chrysoprase is the birthstone for May. Chrysoprase is a zodiac stone for Taurus, Gemini, and Libra. It’s a gemstone for the sacral chakra and heart chakra. Chrysoprase first became a popular gem in Europe after deposits in Poland were discovered in the 1700s. Today, most Chrysoprase is produced in Australia, but it is not widely used because supplies are limited.
It is one of the most important gem minerals, and the gems of beryl are named by their colour as: emerald (green), aquamarine (greenish blue to blue), morganite (pink to orange), red beryl (red), heliodor (yellow to greenish yellow), maxixe (deep blue), goshenite (colourless), and green beryl (light green). Beryl is found in Europe in Norway, Austria, Germany, Sweden (especially morganite), Ireland and Russia, as well as Brazil, Colombia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Pakistan, Afghanistan, South Africa, the United States, and Zambia.
